Greenhouse producers have called on Agriculture Minister Pete Adema to set up a sustainable development fund to prevent new demand for gas. On Wednesday, the minister consulted with entrepreneurs in Westland about their role in the energy transition.
Adema said he wants to shoulder the burden of achieving climate neutrality together, after greenhouse producers said they needed the government to strike a “decisive blow to sustainability”. Among other things, the Minister of Agriculture visited the geothermal project in Maasdijk. This was also followed by Minister Rob Jetten (Climate and Energy) and Secretary of State Martin van Rijn (Taxation and Tax Administration).
The greenhouse horticulture sector relies on stable government policies so that the sector can make good plans and take steps, says Adri Bohm-Lemstra, president of greenhouse horticulture in the Netherlands. “In the coming years, manufacturers will face several challenges that the sector can only solve together with the government. By working together, the knowledge, commitment and innovative potential of the sector can be used and maintained. This applies not only to energy, but also, for example, to the field of protection plants.’
